Me-Made-May’14 Week 4

MMM'14 - Day 18 MMM'14 - Day 19

Day 18 – Yet another Hemlock tee in lilac tissue jersey with a lace insert on the back.
Day 19 – Felt cold Monday morning, so I put on my green jumper – Papercut Patterns undercover hood, but it’s itchy & rough inside, so swapped to my paisley tunic instead.
I think I might use the jumper more if I cut off the arms, what do you think?

MMM'14 - Day 20 MMM'14 - Day 21 MMM'14 - Day 21

Day 20 – Tuesdays I’m back at work, which means boring uniform all day, but I did wear my wristwarmers on my way to work. I finished these just before Me-Made-May’14, my first ones using this pattern, that I’ve had for about 5 years :/ Talk about slow!!!
Day 21Afternoon blouse by Jennifer Lauren Vintage & an old UFO skirt, don’t remember where the pattern is from, I think a Swedish sewing magazine. The skirt has been a UFO for at least the past 10 years, just needed the hem shortened. That’s what happens when things get put in the bottom of a bag :/

MMM'14 - Day 22 MMM'14 - Day 22

Day 22 – Self-drafted skirt in viscose jersey, yes that’s another Hemlock tee in mesh & I’m sure there is a paisley on it somewhere ;) The tee is longer so it covers my bum, but with a short skirt it looks better tied up.
And on the other photo, Me-Made Baby, the BEST thing I’ve ever made!!!

MMM'14 - Day 23 MMM'14 - Day 23 MMM'14 - Day 24

Day 23 – Polka Dot Parade Friday! Wearing my chiffon polka dot dress again & polka dot UFO, just needs buttons. I finished sewing it Thursday night, I’m planning on water- proofing the fabric so I can use it as a raincoat.
Day 24 – Raglan sleeve tee in my lovely petrol viscose jersey, altered Burdastyle pattern, don’t remember which one. Black denim skirt, altered from Burdastyle dress pattern Zoe.

Week 20 2014

Cherry blossoms are falling from the trees, like a beautiful pink petal rain & lovely red poppies are starting to bloom. Most people just see a pretty red flower, I see a fluffy layered skirt :)
I made a Mandala wheel for Attic 24/Yarndale, I mixed a few patterns together when I made this. You can join in too, the deadline is the end of June, check out the link for more info. Making mandala’s is a great way so use up yarn scraps & they are quite addictive :)

Me-Made-May’14 Week 3

MMM'14 - Day 11 MMM'14 - Day 12

Day 11 – Self-drafted wrap dress, currently unblogged. This dress was supposed to be an infinity dress, but the fabric was just too heavy, so it was turned into this.
Day 12 – Altered basic tee pattern, sleeves removed, tee lengthened, hoodie & front pocket added.

MMM'14 - Day 14 MMM'14 - Day 15

Day 14 – Self-drafted tee & yes, I like paisley patterned fabrics ;)
Day 15 – Feeling drapey Thursday. Papercut Patterns Circle top & a halter/racerback pattern from a Danish company.

MMM'14 - Day 16 MMM'14 - Day 17

Day 16 – It’s Too pretty to wear pants Friday! And by pants, I mean trousers. Wearing my Anna dress, the fabric is not good, it wrinkles so easily.
Day 17 – Another Hemlock tee in lovely petrol viscose jersey.

365 Photos Week 19

Week 19 2014

Tuesday was my first day back at work, I’m only working Tuesdays for the next few months. We have very good parental leave in Sweden, I stopped working a month before my due date & LL is 13 months old now.
Saturday was sewing day, I kicked my hubby & baby out of the house so I could sew without distractions.

I picked up my sewing machines on Wednesday, they were supposed to be fixed/serviced, but they both still had issues!!! I haven’t used this place before & I can say I was not happy with the quality of the service. On my lovely Pfaff sewing machine, the tension as totally screwed, medium tension was like high tension. So I got out some tools & opened her up myself, to have a look, worked out that they had put the tension dial on wrong & fixed it myself :)
Then we have my lovely Elna overlock, 14 years old, very well used, she was squeaking when I left her in. Still squeaking now, but not so much, apparently they replaced some parts but I don’t know what, but while sewing, the stitches jumped, the needle put huge holes in my tissue jersey & then to make everything worse, a new scratching noise!
By this point I was quite pissed off! I opened her up too & found the source of the scratching noise, I don’t know what the bit is called, but it looked new & it’s screws were loose. After fixing this & with a new needle, my lovely Elna was good as new again, except for the occasional squeaking. So now I can get my sew on again :D

Me-Made-May’14 Week 2

MMM'14 - Day 5 MMM'14 - Day 5 Back

Day 5Keyhole tunic in pink viscose with black bows & polka dots. Changed the neckline since I made it, still not 100% happy with it.

MMM'14 - Day7 MMM'14 - Day 8

Day 7 – Green Hemlock tee (again) & very very old green baggy trousers, I think I made them at least 10 years ago.
Day 8 – Self-drafted chiffon polkadot dress. In the link photo from 2012, I was 3 months pregnant & sucking in my little baby bump ;)

MMM'14 - Day 9 MMM'14 - Day 10

Day 9 – My crochet jumper, I love this jumper & am so proud of myself for how well it turned out, as it is the first jumper I’ve ever crocheted :)
Day 10 – Self-drafted sort of kimono sleeve tee, a few years old. I should make some more.

Hollywood Sew-along – The Notebook Part 3

It’s time to unveil my garment for The Hollywood Sew-along – The Notebook……….
a Playsuit!!! Well a playsuit of sorts anyway.

Playsuit - The Notebook Sew-along Playsuit - The Notebook Sew-along

Let’s see, where to start, you can read about my inspiration & the other information about the sew-along here. I made the pattern myself after testing some other ideas of pattern hacks, that didn’t turn out at all how I wanted.
I knew I wanted culottes with side pockets, which meant I had to have the opening in either the front or back. After looking at some vintage patterns online, I decided I wanted a plain front & to make things a bit easier I put a zip in the back. I am not happy with the zip, but seeing as my sewing machine broke, I had to borrow my mum’s & I wasn’t going to put in a hidden zip without the foot for that. I might redo it when I get my machine back, so it doesn’t pull like it’s doing.

I don’t know what happened with the pattern, I made a muslin & it needed a few alterations, but I must have done something wrong when I transferred them to the actual fabric (it’s a cotton voile & has been in my stash since 2008). The bum area seems to have lost some ease (hence the pulling around the zip), the darts seem extra fluffy & didn’t line up. The bodice originally had 2 folds & looked like the Anna Dress, but as I screwed up somewhere, I took them out & just gathered to excess fabric. The culottes were longer but it was just too much, so I took off about 10 cm, now they are close to a bit too short for me, oh well, c’est la vie!

In the end, I’m quite happy with it, I think I’ll make another after I’ve tweaked the pattern again. I like the idea of it, of what it could become!
I had fun with the styling, I tried to do victory rolls, but my hair is as always very stubborn. Anyway I hope you enjoy the silly poses in some of the photos :) Don’t forget to go check out what the other sew-alongers have made!

365 Photos Week 18

Week 18 2014

I’ve been outside a lot this past week, & the week has certainly had it’s ups & downs.
First, the downs….. I had to leave both my overlock & sewing machine in to be fixed :(
I already whined about this on Thursday, I hate being without my machines, I love them, I need them!!!
I borrowed my mum’s backup machine, but we don’t seem to speak the same language. I finally talked it into cooperating with me so I could at least finish what I was sewing on when my machines broke, (more on that later today). Anyway keep your fingers crossed that I’ll get them back early this week & that it won’t cost me a fortune!

Now for the ups….. Me-Made-May’14 has started, YAY!!!! :D
As I mentioned before this is my first time participating & hopefully by the end of the month I will have a better idea of what I need to sew to work with my life & how to fill my wardrobe with lovely pretty things :) I’ll be updating the blog weekly with my me-made’s, if you missed the first, very short update, it’s over here.

Me-Made-May’14 Week 1

Well this will be a short update, I didn’t take a pic today, I’ve been just been lazing around the house in boring, but comfy RTW.

MMM'14 - 1 May 2014 MMM'14 - 1 May 2014 Inside

To start Me-Made-May’14 I pulled out an old fave, my paisley jersey tunic. It’s self-drafted/copied from a RTW tunic that I wore to shreds, but I changed the sleeves & the shape slighty. I love this, it’s comfy, casual, but still dressy. I really need to make more of these, must add to my already long to-do list :)

MMM'14 - 1 May 2014 Detail

Day 2 & 3 were also about being comfy!
Day 2 – my floral petrol tee is made out of a lovely soft viscose jersey. I made this before I got pregnant & it’s been well used the past year being home with my son. As I said on Flickr, it’s my stay-at-home dressy look, instead of pj’s ;)
Day 3 – My first Hemlock tee, made out of an almost tissue jersey that I got on sale. Probably because it was colour faded on the edges, which I didn’t notice until cutting it out, I have a seam centre back so I could work around the discolouration. I have more of these cut out waiting to be made.

MMM'14 - 2 May 2014 Me-Made-May'14 - 3 May 2014

That’s all for this week, come back on Sunday for next weeks Me-Made-May update.
If you don’t want to wait you can follow me on Instagram & Flickr, links are in the sidebar.

Bad Start to Me-Made-May’14

My sewing machine broke & my overlock has “issues” :(
Wednesday morning when I was using my overlock is started squeaking while I was sewing & one of the threads kept jumping out of place. So I gave it a good old clean, which was sorely needed, but it still squeaked, the jumpy thread seemed to stay in place though, small victories. It’s been a while since I cleaned my sewing machine too, so I fixed that while I was at it, but something must have happened. This morning when I started sewing, the bobbin just kept locking & managed to unhook itself :(
It’s done that once before & the hubby helped me get it back in place & it’s been working fine. Today after I got it back in place, it just didn’t sound right, something was clicking & the under stiches were on their way to doing a horrible loopy thing.
To make everything worse, the 1st of May is a holiday in Sweden, so most shops are closed, luckily I found a good place that was open & they were offering a discount on machine services. Now both my overlock & sewing machine are getting a well needed spa treatment, the shop guy said my overlock had a cold, cute way to describe it’s problem :)
I’ve borrowed my Mum’s backup machine, which I hate. But what’s a girl to do, I can’t live without a machine! Keep your fingers crossed that they come home quickly.

Me-Made-May’14 – My Pledge

This is my first time participating! But I have been following Me-Made for the last couple of years, I thought about joining before, but something always got in the way. This year I’ve been trying to challenge myself to do things I wouldn’t normally do, like enter competitions & apply to be in the Swedish version of the Sewing Bee.

So Damn it, this year I’m joining in! Even if my wearable handmade wardrobe is lacking, I have a fabric stash big enough to fill it up, I just need some sewing time ;)
What I do have is lots of handmade garments for parties or a few hundred years ago, things that need altering to fit my post-pregnancy body & crocheted winter-time garments. Which is why I’m being easy on myself with my pledge, but also giving myself a challenge! Hopefully after this I will have a wardrobe that’s more wearable for my day to day life, not just the imaginary life I’ve made clothes for! ;P

I, Jennie of www.jaggedrose.se, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’14.
I endeavour to wear at least one handmade/refashioned item five days/week for the duration of May 2014 & to finish all of my current UFO’s by the 31st of May.

If you want to follow me, I’ll be posting daily on Instagram & in the Me-Made-May’14 Flickr pool, my own Flickr & weekly updates here on the blog :)
